Hey Guyz,
As some of you know I am in the midst of a complete resto of 2 WFL WWII Victorious kits. One is an original WMP 26,7,13,14 sn. WITH the ORIGINAL WOODEN Snare stand Foot Pedal. All of the hardware was painted black. I am stripping all of it down and staining it a cherry color to match the period better and expose the beauty of the wood. PLUS It looks way better than the black. . . [YUK] The WMP has been Novus-ed,buffed and polished. Most of the wood lugs are stripped from black /silver. the foot board was worn so I'm gonna gently massage the black finish and repaint it factory silver. However I am gonna refinish the foot board to show the wood. The snare stand will get the same treatment of clean up repaint factory silver. However I am going to strip and refinish the feet of the stand to also celebrate the wood beneath.
The second kit is 1 marble snare and 13 tom and a 16 FT that was a Blue/gold Duco UNDERNEATH black spray paint and gold starz.. I am going to have the rods re-threaded further up the shaft as to remedy the design flaws. I will choose a 40's 22x12 or 14 BD and recreate the "Look" of the wood lugs and center tuning rods but it will be conventional hoop tuning not the internal as this kit will be designed to be a player ! ! ! . Stripping the badly cracked and missing marble finish has been quite a chore, but the results are beautiful.
The WMP kit is for functional show and historical homage. It will have the light colored shell and dark grain wood lugs and hoops for contrast. The other kit will have a Tung oil cherry-ish finish shell and the hoops/lugs will be its original maple color. . exact opposites.
I will really high gloss/buff/polish the inner reinforcement rings and the floating Bearing edges after some careful sanding adjustments to keep everything smooth with no binds for fine tuning. . . Thanx for reading
