The SuperTen is a very capable drum. Tune it just like you would a Dyna-Sonic.. you can use the Rogers issues spec sheet for that, or even follow the TommyP cut sheet, ignoring the stuff about the frame. Heads of your choice, but I would recommend a Coated Ambassador or Diplomat single ply top, and an Ambassador weight snare side .003 mil if you are going for one of the other brands. The drum will be sensitive, have great tone, focused sound at center, and you can make it as ringy as you want playing out from center, without a loss of power or depth. Did I mention, I like the SuperTen?
Great information on this snare. I usually go with the trusty Ambassadors on pretty much all drums so I can tick that off the list. :) I've had a few Dyna-sonics and I usually just tuned them like I would any snare. Maybe I would tune the batter-head a little lower on brass snares to emphasize that warm sound from the shell. I think you lose a bit of that sound when you crank the batter-head up. Just my opinion. With a steel snare I'll probably crank t up a little higher. Thanks for the link. I'll have to give that a go.
