WTB: old 3 ply shells for project

Loading...

Hello there,

I am looking for any old 3 ply shells with re-rings that you may have laying around. As long as the edges aren't really beat up and the shell isn't delaminating(separating plys) then I will be interested. I don't care what color as they are going to be refinished in the end and I'm wanting to build a smallish jazz style kit. The sizes I'm most interested in are a 12 or 13 inch tom with a 8 or 9 inch depth, a 14 or 16 inch tom with a 12 to 16 inch depth and a 20 or 22 by 14 bass. I would like to do this on the cheap... I already have all the hardware I need and a snare now I just need to find the shells for oh around 50 bucks or so shipped or picked up. Btw I'm in the Terre Haute, IN area and Would be willing to drive a short distance(up to 2 hours or so)

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan!

I PM'd you and here are photos of the shell I spoke of. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks!

Search CL for a guy in Detroit that sells shells - plenty of vintage stuff - perhaps non-vintage?? perhaps affordable and worth the drive. He sells many parts too.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I have a 15" diameter X12" Leedy & Ludwig marching snare shell that I was going to cut down to make a snare with. Not sure I'll have the time in the immediate future to work on it... Its painted black over a blue sparkle finish. Edges are fantastic. A real solid shell.

Bob at Bill Schaeffer's drumshop in Flint,MI had some MIJ shells with most or all the hardware on them....no wrap....cheap. Might need some repair as one or two shells had some slice ply separation. Sizes are 13,16,22 I think.

Give him a call and check it out.
