I recently picked up a MIJ Zim Gar 3 pc. kit. The bass and snare are Zim Gar and the snare is Ideal brand...also MIJ.

It's a sweet little kit and looks well made. The 12x8 rack tom has die cast hoops. I don't know if that is original? But I need some tension rods. The rack tom is missing 6. The snare is missing 1. The snare is different from the rack tom. The snare is also different from the standard rods we get now....12-24?

A. Zim Gar rod. 1 3/4" in length measured from bottom of collar.

B. Ideal snare rod. 1 5/8" in length measured from bottom of collar.

C. Standard rod removed from a Pearl Forum series snare drum.

I thought about just replacing all the swivel nuts but when I took some off some spare pearl forum lugs, they will fit loose and be able to spin. Not sure if when I go to tighten the lugs if this will be a issue. The nuts in the MIJ lugs also have a tip to hold the spring in place.

I tried to take pics so you can get a idea what I'm talking about. Picture A. shows the original which fit snugs and doesn't rotate and B. shows the newer swivel nut with all the space around it.

I also was able to pick up 12 more matching tom lugs on ebay. They are the exact same lugs! So, I'm gonna take a 14x12 pearl tom I have and convert to a small floor tom. I have everything needed. I just need to plug the bottom holes from the smaller lugs and redrill another hole to mount the larger lugs. Not a issue. I also got a sample from drumfoundry and their graphite pearl is a good match. The pattern is a little smaller but being a floor tom off to the side, I think it will work fine. In person it looks right on.

So, I'm gonna need a total of 18 of the Zim Gar 1 3/4" rods (A.) and 1 of the 1 5/8" rods for the snare (B.)
