WTB: Ludwig 3-ply kit for my son

Loading...

I play my 24/13/16 3-ply kit pretty high, and my 9 year old son is getting tired of having to ask me to adjust them every time he wants to play.

He has been earning money any way he can, and has decided that he wants to buy a drum kit for himself.

After playing a few of the usual starter kits, he said to me "these don't sound as good as yours". He understands how new gear tends to depreciate, and that vintage gear can also be an investment. What better way to reward a young tone snob, than with his own 3-ply kit?!

So, with that in mind, I am looking for an affordable players kit in good working condition. Affordable is key, so matching serials and wraps are not important. Let me know what you've got!

Here he is at 8 years old: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb9vD4-Zs68&hd=1[/ame]

Thanks in advance!

Wow, very cool and he even has good taste in music. I'll keep a look out, I come across a lot of vintage kits. I know where I can get Slingerland in blue satin flame or red glass glitter, but I think he wants $500-600, how much are you looking to spend?

Thanks! The Beatles and Talking Heads are his two favorites, but I do have to put up with Justin Bieber as well.

As far as budget goes, I haven't really kept up with prices. I imagine it'll be in the $400-$600 dollar range. I told him I would help him with half of the cost.

I am in San Diego, so I need to factor in shipping costs were applicable.

1972 Ludwig Blue Sparkle kit: 12", 13", 16", 22" $499.00 + $150.00 shipped from:

Littleton, CO

8055 W. Bowles Ave

Littleton, CO 80123

303-932-8277

Call them and request photos. The kit is in real nice shape from what I can see. Those 72's are going to have 3-ply maple shells that are among the best sounding shells Ludwig ever produced. He'll be able to tune them low where he likes them and he'll be rewarded with that classic Ludwig sound.

Enjoy every minute, dad. It all goes by in a blinding flash. My daughter is 40 and my son is 37, there are times when I wish I could go back to when they were your son's age and live it all over again. You're a lucky guy.

Check out the drums for your budding drummer. The price is right in your wheel-house and you won't find a better sounding, or quality, kit for the money. (Not mine... it's a Music-Go-Round kit.)

Best of luck, hope you guys decide to stick around and become a part of our drum family.

Best to you and yours...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

BTW, the Slingerland blue satin flame is a 12,16,20, perfect sizes for a 9 year old. I'd be shipping from San Antonio, Texas. I would imagine it would be around $100, thanks.

Man, I hope my son will love drums as much as I do. He's almost 2 now and

has no problem taking my sticks and going to town, haha.

Anyway, I picked up and old slingerland kit the other day that sounds right up your alley. 12,16,20 early 60's kit players kit. With a little TLC it could be a great kit.

Here's my ad on CL with pics. Not sure where you're located, but I can usually ship a kit from my job for $50 in the states.

Best of luck!

Thanks for all the replies, and I appreciate the offers.

I've never heard of Music Go Round... are they are reputable and trustworthy shop?

I just bought a set of 1971 Ludwigs from the local Music Go Round here in MA.

They were very nice to deal with.

It's a franchise and I think the guy said they have like 15 stores.
