This is a mystery, unless its a drum Buddy actually played, I would guess this be worth $500 at this rate it may go up to 1k

shill bidding, the same and only bidder?
Interesting that he keeps outbidding himself. I cant understand how that works.

I don't understand this. Never sold on ebay and bought mostly BIN. Why would the same bidder keep jacking it up fifty bucks a pop for no reason? Is there logic here that has escaped me?
No Logic but what a great drum.
Just enjoy the pictures for the remaining 5 days I'd say,...
It's not possible for a single bidder to keep jacking up the price like this. I decided to message the buyer for an explanation. Let's see how he/she responds.
Was there a reserve on the auction? If there was you can place multiple bids and the current price won't jump until you hit the reserve price. Perhaps this was the case.
there's a whopping 5 days left to bid. I can assure you you'll see some late flurry bidding on this.
Gary!...
... and whereas I know you were asking "unless it's a drum Buddy actually played" rhetorically, I can fill in a little here on this particular one:
The BR/TDR model from this era is kind of rare to find, and especially so in WMP, which was of course Buddy's color. Thing is, this particular one is LATE production what with a serial number of #3383226. I have an EARLY production model in my BR snare drum collection, and it's serial number is #118776, which places it at late 1973, into early 1974. THIS is the era/model that Buddy could have possibly played as it has NO TONE CONTROL, and factory StickChoppers, exactly as Buddy played his. Needless to say, I'm sure it's not or ever was one of Buddy's snare drums, but the build/year is right in there when he was playing his. Also of interest on these:
Slingerland had MAJOR problems with the mounting of the TDR throw/butt on these model snare drums, especially so on the one's built later. What happened was that the "jig" for aligning the TDR throw/butt was "not in line" with the bearing edges/beds, thus they were tilted at a very slight angle. Many were built this way as I don't think Slingerland ever fixed the problem... course back then.. ( in the 70's ) .. nobody really knew there was a problem, they just thought that's how the drum played/sounded. Because of this misalignment, most of these are incredibly "buzzy" as the snares don't sit straight on the bottom head. Deal breaker? Probably not.. but when you play one that is set up/aligned correctly.. wow .. what a difference! Mine being very early, is spot on... and the drum plays and sounds excellent. I have seen/played many that weren't though... too many actually. Here's the thing though:
They can be coaxed into realignment by gently opening up the TDR throw/butt mounting holes which will allow the throw/butt to be moved into alignment so they are straight up and down on the side of the shell. Amazingly, this one looks pretty straight though! Regardless...
... agreed. Possible "shill" as it makes no sense whatsoever to keep bidding UP your own bid when there isn't another bidder!
Tommyp
Tommyp (or anyone that knows),
Just a quick question... Does this size of drum have more than one breather hole? I've got some 12x16 TDR marching drums, and they all had 3 total breather holes, one with the badge and the other two without.
The biggest reason I ask is because the gears in my head are turning about building a reproduction of one of these...
Thanks,
