Would a genuine Ludwig floor tom hoop be stamped "Taiwan"?

Loading...

I bought a "Ludwig" hoop for my 1969 Ludwig 16" floor tom on eBay and in the process of polishing it, I saw it was stamped "Taiwan".

It's certainly not a "vintage" hoop [LOL] but before I go back to the seller, is any era of Ludwig hoop likely to be stamped "Taiwan"?

It's bad enough, it doesn't even look like my other Ludwig hoops. Gotta luv some of these eBay sellers. I'm surprised he didn't call it a "Ringo" hoop. LOL

I think you know the answer to your thread question ... "nope". Ludwig circa 69 would not have put Taiwan steel hoops on their kits.

Actually, I asked if any era Ludwig would have a "Taiwan" stamp. :) I'm pretty new to this but I do know they were made in USA in '69. ;) [Thanks to you and the gang in this forum]

I'm not sure when they stopped making Ludwig stuff in the USA. Or, if they went to China or Taiwan or what.

I guess it's no big deal. It's still not the '69 that I want. I was just more curious if this could actually be a [more modern] Ludwig and have a "Taiwan" stamp.

Ahhh. And once again, I dine on loafer in a nice wild mushroom bearnaise sauce. Ludwig went East during the 80's, I believe. I'm reluctant to nail down a date, 'cause I'm liable to end up in the fetal position begging for scream-therapy again. So, without further ado ... bring on the Ludwig smarty-pants to give a more precise date.

LMAO......

I'm not sure if I should complain to the seller. His eBay name indicates he is a drum dealer and has a feedback over 5000.

If it is possible that this could be a genuine Ludwig part, I better keep my mouth shut or I'll be enjoying dinner with you. LMAO

On the other hand, if he represented this as a Ludwig and it's not.... he should know better.

Thanks again for the input.

Hmm...Ludwig "smartypants" here......yeah that was for you Michael...LoLoLoLo

Ludwig started importing kits from Taiwaan under the Ludwig name in the very late 1980's and continue to this day, for the LOWER COST line of drums. Currently about 70% of their product line is made in mainland China or Taiwaan. The rest is still made in Monroe, NC in the good ole' US of A.

So to answer the original question...yes, it could be a "Ludwig" hoop that was made in Taiwaan, but it is made and looks nothing like what would have been fitted to your vintage drums.

YES!!! Car Driving2

I am RIGHT about something in the one. It was the 80s! I am vindicated! I can finally pick myself up off the floor and swat that smart-arse cat of mine. She thinks she's so bright, dancing around me when I'm down ... like she knows all the answers. She missed THREE of the last twenty questions. She ain't all that Einstein-like. Freekin' know-it-all cat.

p.s. - thanks Paul for bailing me out of this one.

LOL....

Thanks guys.

I can't stand the thought of putting this hoop on my drum. I'm not sure why. LOL But, I think I'll look for something closer to the original.

Thanks again.
