Will Tillman 3ply Snare Shell Last viewed: 9 hours ago

I ordered a custom built 3ply Maple/Poplar/maple 6.5x14 snare shell with 30 deg. edges from Will Tillman of Drummer's Dream Custom drums. The drum has snare beds but is blank other than that. Date and Drummers Dream stamp on inner shell.

I ordered it because it looked like I was never going to find the right 3ply shell for a kit I'm putting together. Funny thing...the drum arrived yesterday and around the same time I found exactly what I was looking for on eBay....a 1950 3ply Gretsch shell....no hardware....but, with all the holes drilled like what I'm looking for.......unbelievable.

I have Will's shell that I could build into a fine drum. My Gladstone shell was built by him....a 3 ply as well 7x14.

I was thinking I may try to sell the shell if indeed the eBay score turns out to be the dream shell I'm looking for (It hasn't been shipped to me yet).

Would there be any interest here for the Tillman shell if I did decide to sell it? I paid $275 for the shell - landed it was $380 after the shipping and Customs fees. I know I'm not going to recover all my costs - I'm okay with that. I will be taking a lot more high res photos.....these were sent to me by Will.

I would be looking at getting $250 for the shell.

I tend to be too trigger happy when buying drums and parts - I'm ending up with too much stuff.............like a lot of us I guess.

I know $250 seems like a lot but this is one nice shell. If you just think of it as being a high-end snare when it's finished ......$700 + with high-end paint...or a beautiful wrap for much less...and the very best hardware....then it's not a bad price. I would be able to supply my Paypal receipt for what I paid for the drum.

A heads up in the months (maybe early next year) to come:

I'm retiring....we're moving and downsizing...I know I will be selling a ton of drum stuff at that time. I will let folks on here and a few other drum Forums know in advance of stuff going on Craigslist/Kijiji etc. I have some nice old drums that I thought I'd never sell but it's only stuff and priorities change as I get older. I will probably keep some sticks and a drum or two though. Gotta have something to bang around on in the ole-folks campground.

Cheers,

What is the outside diameter of that shell, and did you say snare beds were done?

The outside diameter looks like 13 7/8" - I measured in four placed and that's what I came up with each time. I asked Will to cut the snare beds like a Gretsch drum. I don't know anything about cutting snare beds. They look pretty shallow. I realize it may not be what someone that wants to build their own drum would want because of the beds and 30 deg. edges.

It is a specialty item for sure. Someone would have to want this very custom shell and I realize there may not be a whole lot of people lined up to pay $250 for it.

However - someone has expressed an interest already so I will post the outcome here.
