o.k. ,I give. what is it with these Ludwig Speed Kings? I've had 3 of them---one I recently sold to a neurotic constant noodler who would not use any other pedal---(he broke the cast bridge of his old pedal------how do you do that?)-----=so I have a used one that I acquired,left and the one I bought upon recommendation in 1967, brand new and played for about 3 1/2 years or until I wisened up and got into pedals that were not designed by sadists. Since then, I have played Slingerland(several models),Ludwig SpeedMaster(an older Ludwig pedal, that I like better),Sonor(several models),Trixon(several models),Premier, Basix,Tromsa(several models), Ghost(the second one), some odd Japanese pedals,Pearl and a few others I have forgotten. With the exception of some of that odd Japanese stuff----the vaunted Ludwig Speed King ---even brand new is the worst pedal I have ever played. Now , before anybody out there who went into R.E.M.'s during the appearance of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan starts screaming sacrilege; Ringo wasn't playing one of those. He was playing another pedal. So, now that , that is clear(Ringo, also chose his Ludwigs due to their colour, not their quality) why would anyone play these things or pay over 100.00 on ebay for such misengineered garbage? The rivet in the heel becomes loose, the joints in all the connecting metal on metal unions wear and become loose,the angle of the footboard is specifically designed for exhibition waterskiers, that have had anklebone fusion, and the threads in the aluminum spring columns strip. The only good thing about the pedal is that it has ball bearings.Seems to me , a few other pedals have bearings as well but they don't rely on surplus parts from a combine to activate the beater.

Is there a point to this thread ... Other than to vent the opine? I don't get these. Why type it?
