Why do we hate concert toms?

Ya I have pretty much made up my mind to leave them alone. I have a neat idea for the trim on the bottom of them, you'll see. Waiting for the koa veneer to arive, Im excited to see it.

I think it`s a great idea to keep them as is,..but can`t wait to see the trim !!

Don`t pay too much mind to what`s been posted so far,...I think most of it is full of crap !!

With my set up, I got a snare, Bass and floor toms , just like any others resonate kits, and it`s the same degree of difficulty depending, on how they get tuned !! "these are the one`s ya gotta get fine tuned" Same deal as the others don`t make much of a short cut. I hear all kinds of reasons and some make good points but for the most part,.. C-toms let you play in two different tones !!

A simple BD, snare, hat, beat/grove is done the same with an Octoplus kit as it is with a Classic kit and Radio King kit and Downbeat kit, and so on !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Odball, I will have to admit that before starting this thread I was pretty much set on going with the conversion. I was surprized to see some guys in favor of leaving them. I think Johns comment of "No need to alter factory drums" reminded me of the fact even though they are 1980 drums they are still 33 years old and are not made anymore.

Plus you hear guys boo-hoo concert toms all the time so I thought this would be an interesting thread.

Allthough, I have heard some guys say they are making a comeback too.

I hate how they look, I hate how they usually sound, and I hate how they play (the feel of the drum when you hit them). And I hate that lots of people took the bottom heads off of, now vintage, drums back in the 60s and 70s, which had a tendency to ruin the bearing edges and get them to go out of round.

Hate is a strong word so..... I strongly dislike them!!

I did play tenors (quads) in high school marching band. Those are the only single head drums that I dig.

FWIW I always liked concert toms and the sounds they give. Glad your leaving them as is they are wicked cool. My old Slingerland kit from years ago was pretty much all big size drums. I got a set of 3 Roto toms (forget the sizes but small) and gave me the upper range I was lacking sometimes.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

People just don't them in any kind of way .Shouldn't be to worry about them either

People will buy , sell or trade on what they like and see and might be heard .
