Who knows this brand?

During my further investigations, there comes another company: Maxwin (by Pearl), who produced drums in the 70th (I don't think they are still with new sets on the market?). Has anyone comments/ information concerning this brand?

Greetings - Ralf

I forgot about Maxwin. That brand was one of the many stencil kits around in the 60's - 70's.The only issue with the kit being a Maxwin is how they mounted their badges and the tom mounts. While they did use the pearl style of arms..the actual mounts on the toms had 4 mount holes as opposed to the three that pearl uses and what your kit has.And their badges were typically mounted around the air grommet and glued on as opposed to being tacked on.The kit ( after perusing ebay ) may very well be a 70's pearl kit. They did use ( tom wise ) those lugs, same mount system, same type of badge ( from what I do recall ) On the bass drum mount...that little area in front where its sticking out from the rest of the mount is where the name Pearl would have been engraved. Is there any name on there?

I just noticed you wrote that the holes in which the mounting hardware goes through the drums was modified from its origional version. Now I must ask to rule out any other possible ides...but are there any extra screw holes on either the mounted toms or bass drum? The set could very well be a U.S.Mercury if so.I have a U.S.Mercury kit that had tacked badges. And the mouting hardware was really cheap in comparison to other mounting hardware of the day.

Perhaps I'm misunderstood: I mean, the hole in the mounting hardware has been modified, not the hole in the drums itself ... The diameter was widened to be able to pick up the tom-arms, which obviously have a little bigger diameter. (There are scratches from treatment with a file in tom and BD mounting hardware.)

And: no, there are no further holes for screws are anything in any of the drums, that status seems to be original.

Again: the only significant sign is the - let's say: handwritten - 'm' logo at the BD mounting hardware (see one of my first pics), which also has a shape of a crown, I think ...

Now, here's a pic from a fresh eBay-deal with an older Maxwin set. The wing screws and lugs are identical!

Judging from that pic you posted the set may very well be a Maxwin. Those look to have the tacked on badges and the modernized Pearl Style hardware.Having gone through many a names of stencil kits and seeing that...probably the best guess that the set in question is a Maxwin.

Hi again,Thanks to all for your efforts. At the moment I am cleaning the set completely, so I guess that pics from only parts won't help at all. I'll promise to give you some pics of the sparkling "renewed" set within the next week.So far - have a nice weekend! Ralf---Hello again,So here are the pics from the unknown drums producer.I guess, the two separate tom arms may belong to Pearl or brands under Pearl? (The two arms themself seem to be renewed later, as their diameter did not fit exactly the holes into BD and TT and so the holes were widened.)I attach furtheron pics of BD pedal and HH mashine, which may be parts of the original previous hardware. They have a stamp of "C.Y.S." and "Taiwan".At least a better detail from the snare strainer. The damper at the snare drum is equal to previous STAR quick damper system (half a rotation = damper is pressing the drumskin). The two nails from the removed badges on toms and bass drum have a (very wide) distance of 6.7 cm (2.64 inch?) and so it indicates a "long name" - not a short logo.Do the pics help to find out the producer? I'm eagerly waiting for any comments - thank you! Regards from Germany - Ralf

Those lugs are found on various, cheap japanese drumkits. Here's a kit I bought last summer. It was cheap and I needed some lugs... black vinyl wrap was loose and bumpy. It was glued only on seam, so it was easy to take away. Shells were in a good condition, so I varnished the shells and cleaned lugs... (and didn't get any spares ;)

A nice beach- / summerparty-kit is ready! (no need to worry some showers)

This kit was sold as Superbeat. The labels were likely that 7 cm x 1.5 cm with to nails. This kit has even the original head on bd.

Snare is Newsound (lugs are though very, very near to SB:s). Cymbals I got with were Meteors & Headliners.

Hi again,

Finally I found out, that my set is a 'ROY'. A low budget brand from the 80s.

I rebuilt the badges and put them on the places whether they should be.

In the right corner you can see the badge how it looks like now.

Thanks again for all your help!

Ralf
