Here are some photos of the bent counter hoop before and after. The shadow of the hoop on the kitchen counter should give some idea of how bent out of shape the hoop was. I followed Purdie Shuffle's advice and I got it sitting more or less flat. Thanks, John!
Funny thing, while in the kitchen I tested the metal parts with a magnet and the magnet stuck to more or less everything on the drum including the counter hoops. I was sure that they were nickel over brass, but they appear to be nickel on steel. The only parts were the magnet didn't stick was on the badge and the round knob on the strainer.
Were NOS hoops common on Ludwig snares in the 40's? I'm certain these are original to the drum. They look identical to some other examples that I've seen.
