Here she is . A Hollywood by Meazzi vintage snare drum. Kinda rare, not many around, particularly on this side of the pond. probably early '70's.
Interesting shell...2 plys of maple (seriously).
Oddly, about a month ago on eFlay, in 2 consecutive weeks...there were 2 different sellers auctioning Meazzi stuff. (I have had a search saved for the stuff for 3+ years now and this was the first time they had popped up !).
I thought for sure I nailed the first snare....I put a bid in w/ 20 seconds and I was the high bidder by a longshot...then someone sniped it with 4 seconds to go. Hurting
So, 'fer sure I wasn't gonna let anyone grab the second one. I won it, but it wasn't cheap...nor quite as cherry as the one which slipped thru my fingers.
So, I rec'd it...and the seller had said that one t-rod was missing....so I figure...hey, big deal, right ?
D'OH. The t-rods are HEXAGONAL HEADED and of a thread which is not standard, no any of the 3 Japanese metric varieties...nor of the vintage Premier thread variety. And, of course, the threaded insert designs are custom only to Meazzi...so it wasn't like I could just slip a contemporary insert into their lugs.
Um....yyyyyyay.....CryBaby
So...amazingly...absolutely amazingly....the VERY WEEK I win this snare...I stumble across one of only 3 posts a RECENTLY NEW MEMBER has posted to THIS forum. Posts only 3 times...BUT...ONE post is offering his assistance if anyone ever needs to find parts.... in ITALY or EU !
HUH ?
So, hats off to my new best friend....member Toniblanco, of Italy...for hooking me up with HIS good drum friend.... in Germany...who..believe it or not...HAD extra original hexagonal-headed Meazzi t-rods AND snare claws to boot !!!!
(This is why I love these forums, folks ! What in the world were the chances, really....?????)

So here she is...a 5-1/2" x 14"...everything original. Just took 'er apart, sanded 'er, cleaned 'er (neeeded major de-gunking), tweaked the batter edge a tad, and viola !!!!
