The rockabilly set is pictured in the intro. I would have to go back thru the old photos{ pre-digital age} and find the champagne sparkle photos. I unfortunatly sold the set in the 80's, back before nostalgia was the new thing.I will post pix of all the rest soon. Thanks again and keep the beat!
Where is introduction part of forum?
Been lurking for a little bit but finaly took the plunge and decided to sign up and post. I have been playing for 38 years (started when I was 2) and am a Slingerland guy. First kit was a Slingerland and I currently play on a 90's era Studio King kit that sounds great. I now do restoration and customization works as well as resale and repair with used and vintage drums.
What's happening Dave? I'm a Central PA native myself (Hanover to be specific), now residing in disgustingly hot Houston, TX. Sounds like you have some fantastic taste in gear. Any pics?
I'm in lovely downtown State College, PA. I'll get some pics of the RB Gretsch set shortly, but I just snagged this 70s Slingerland set - and from forum member johnnyringo, a great-sounding Buddy Rich COB snare and a set of old A. Zildjian hats to go with it. The set came to me re-wrapped in Polar Ice, but I'm diggin' it. I'm pretty new to drums and, admittedly, probably don't deserve this much cool gear, but here are a few shots. I think it looks pretty good with the '71 Vibrolux Reverb, '63 Reissue Telecaster, and '57 Bassman. Yes, I admit I'm a serious gear-aholic, been doing vintage (and sometimes not exactly vintage) guitars, pedal steels, and amps for a long time now. But I've really been bitten by the drumming bug recently - my geetar playing friends are wondering what happened, but it's really a blast.
Wow!
This is great forum,I just found it today!
I'm a long time drummer with a passion for vintage drums.
I live in NYC in an apartment so unfortunately I've been playing edrums (which suck) for the last several years.
I wish I had a place to play real drums in the city but at the moment it's not feasible.
I have too many nice vintage drums just gathering dust! lol
The collection includes a kit of Radio Kings from the '40's(yellowed mother of pearl)26" bd,13" tom(2)14" tom,16" fltom and a 5x14 snare.
I also have a WFL kit from the the '50's with a 22" bd and 2 snare drums(5" & 7")
I retrofitted Pearl Tom mounts on both bass drums & added the rims system for the toms, so I can mix and match both kits depending on the gig and situation.
I also have a Ludwig kit '65 (22" bd 13" 14" 16") for dive gigs
& a few more snare drums '50's-1981 Sling,Pearl,Ludwig etc..
Tons of cymbals A's,,Paiste and a couple of cherished KZ's!
assorted Slingerland toms from the '70's and so on.........
This site reminds me how much I miss playing real drums!!!
Great site, now I must find a way to play some real drums!
KG ;-)
This is the longest post I've seen! I may as well chime in. (Hey ,that was kind of a joke..) WELCOME ALL!

Hi guys and gals. well as seems to be the fashion - just wanted to introduce myself to the forum through this thread. I really appreciate the work and craftmanship that goes into restoring drums though would never attempt it myself as I haven't got either the skill or patience! i do however own a vintage kit and prefer vintage kits to the more machined (mostly far eastern?) modern kits around today by ALL the major manufacturers. They represent a 'golden age' i guess...god I sound old. Anyhoo I know I will enjoy being involved in this forum. All the best RFD
O l
hey i am louse! nice to meet you all
I am also a newbie and was looking for the intro forum. They should remove that window from the home page for us new guys! It was driving me nuts because I couldn't find it.
Anyway, Hello, all!! Glad to be part of this. I have lots to do here. Restoration, acquisitions, advice, questions, etc., etc.
Hey everyone. Picked up a Gretsch round badge kit in a trade and found this site while trying to identify the year. It has been very helpful!!! I love dorking out on this stuff too!

Hey Guys,
Just introducing myself. I'm Josh, have been playing for about 20 years, and play in many different studio and live situations around town. I've been active for some time on drum forum, but wanted to get plugged in here too. Here is my current kit:

13 X 9
16 X 16
22 X 14
6.5 X 14
I've owned a lot of cool vintage gear over the years, but traded in my main collector kit to get the cravs. Some of the kits I've owned:
Super Classic 1969 Gold Sparkle - 13,16,22, 14 (Super old pic from college)
Super Classic 1965 Black Galaxy - 13,16,22
Super Classic 1969 Sky Blue Pearl - 12,13,16,22
