Really good question ! Welcome

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Actually, I'm glad you put the posts back on topic ;)

As an aside, I find it funny how people argue about the different brands of heads out there today. I mean, they are all mylar and manufactured in similar ways. Quality is good among them all, and sounds are similar between their similar designs. To me, mylar (or plastic as you said lol!) all sound the same between the different brands withing similar design types. And then there is this: they are all plastic heads trying to sound like calfskin. Having played on calf before and comparing the two side by side, I can say that calf clearly wins every time for me as far as sound. As far as being a pain in the butt everytime the weather changes, I can see why everyone went to plastic heads. Calf is very tempermental when the climate changes, or humidity changes.

I'm a bit limited due to my RKs being oversized. 13" and 16" have American Vintage Mediums. 26" has coated Ambassadors on both sides, front head is ported, batter has some tape around the perimeter for muffling, hoops on both heads are cut in 4 places to get the heads onto the drum. Also have a wool cricket vest inside the drum taped to the shell but not touching either head, it cuts back the reflections inside so no basketball ping. Snare has the classic coated reverse dot head over an ambassador snare side and puresound custom 24s. Pretty standard sort of set up, tuned about medium so they're responsive and have a good amount of resonance and body. I spank them fairly hard in a rock/garage/grunge band and they work well.

I have become an Evans guy, G2 coated on top, G1 reso on the bottom, love the sound, and the consistency. EMAD2 on kick. I've always leaned toward smaller shells with lower tensions on the heads than the jazz guys, so everyone has their cup of tea I'm sure.

Remo Clear Pinstripes on all the tom batters, Aquarian Classic Clears on all the tom resos.

Aquarian Texture Coated on snare batter, Remo Ambassador or Diplomat snare side.

I've been using an Aquarian Force I as a kick batter (with a felt strip muffler), but am about to try a Super-Kick I in its place.
