The standard butt puts it later, many of the early 50's drums have an extended butt. They made the switch at some point in the late 50's. The 51 catalog has the extended butt and the 55 and 57 catalogs do not.

That particular badge was used from about 55 - 59 and in 58-59 they had the transition badge.

The years are give and take, but the 1960's Ludwig badges I believe were the Ludwig Keystone Badge.

Based on that I would lean to the later 50's.

That is unless the badge happened to be laying around and they just used it!!

As always I do not call myself an expert and go on the catalogs and information I have gathered, other more technical people might be better at pinpointing a date and or correcting the years.

"What is it worth?"

-Probably about 200-300 on a good day. The WFL drums are not as highly sought after as the later 60's drums. It might go higher...the market can be fickle.

I have been looking for one of these also? But they seem pricy at the moment, did you guys see this one on ebay:

Personally, I think it's an overpriced drum at over $500.00....BUT...the fact that a famous drummer's (Buddy Rich) name can be associated with that model, makes it much more desireable to some collectors. No doubt, it's a nice drum, though. I guess at some point, the value is in the ear of the beholder! ;)
