What should I do with this badge?

Loading...

I am working on this kit and the bass drum badge is pulling from the shell. Should I glue this down or leave it for the next owner to decide? I think I should glue it down unless there is another way to push it down. Unless there is a better option what should I use to glue it? Liquid Nails ok?

Thanks

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Eric,

If it's the same liquid nails we have down here, it may be a little too thick..

I'd use a clear contact cement.. applied to both surfaces with a credit card or similar.. I'd mask off the wrap as well.. allow it to "go off" as per the instructions on the tube.. and then push together and weight it down..

Cheers

I remember someone posting awhile back that they used a toothpick, or the like, under the badge and slowly started to "bend" the badge back in shape...Push down just ahead of the toothpick to bend the badge back into shape...The toothpick acts like a wedge...Start from the middle and work out to the sides...

Cheers

I will qualify this by saying I've never knocked a grommet out to switch a badge..... but why don't you knock the grommet out and press the badge back to form and reinstall it?

Again, I don't know if that requires any special tools or skill as I have never tried it.

I wouldn't want to buy a shell with the badge glued to it, for what it's worth....

Getting replacement grommets is not an issue. I'd remove it, bend it back int shape and re-set it. Treat the cause (bent badge), not the symptom.

From skink

I wouldn't want to buy a shell with the badge glued to it

Agreed! The mfgrs didn't glue their badges down, the curve of the badge and the grommet kept it in place. If you're patient and careful you can safely remove the grommet and reuse it, if not new grommets can be found.

Ludwig used an adhesive on the back of B/O badges. The way I straighten out bent badges is, to use a small 1" wide rubber roller. Press firmly as you go over the badge, if the adhesive hasn't dried out completely, it should stick back down on the wrap. If the adhesive on the back of the badge is dried, just add a little glue to the bottom of the badge with a Q-tip or plastic card, allow to cure a little, mask off the wrap outside the badge, then go over it with the 1" rubber roller. Simple, works.

The one in the photo is wider than the one I use, but you get the idea.

I would knock down the price if I saw a badge removed then re-installed.

I`d do the toothpick idea, then tape it off and adhear it with dots of contact cement. The liquid nails might make it lumpy show on the edges.

Ugh. I don't know how many times I've seen this happen to this specific badge, over the years. That sucks. If it wasn't originally glued, not sure I'd glue it, now. But I guess no choice. Maybe just a dot of quality adhesive under each pointed area.

Good luck fixing it and don't forget the extra dose of patience.
