I thought i'd post this thread because i think the time has finally come to address this situation, and because over the last few years , as a very busy gigging musician, i've noticed it's been increasingly more prominent in our society, no matter where we live..
When i was younger, i did some pretty stupid things when drunk, but never anything that would require law enforcement, an overnight trip to the slammer, or even hospitalization..
While i realize it's hard being a teen or young adult in this insane world we currently live in, i adamantly believe that there is absolutely no excuse for unnecessary violence, or vandalism of any kind..
Where am i going with this ? Read on and see..
About an hour ago, i arrived from a duo gig i do with my guitar player.
On my way home in the cab, not half a block away from my home, three drunk punks in their early 20's decide to act like 3 ***holes, and cause some unnecessary violent and stupid behavior.. These punks were talking to a friend of theirs in a convertible which was stopped in the middle of the road, just off the corner from street, while the green light was on, and blocking my cab from bringing me home.
The cab driver honked his horn so the car could make way for us to turn the corner.. As the car blocking the road began to drive away, the "3 stooges" decide to pull the finger at my cab driver, yelling racist remarks and giving him the finger as well,(cabby was African and easily in his late 60's) and then, it happened.. One of these drunken, sub-human excuses for a human being, decides to kick the side of the cab a few times, while we were just trying to make our way through to get to my home.
If it wasn't for the fact that they were 3, i would have brought my gear home, grabbed the top part of an old cymbal stand, chase that mother***er down, and pummel his a**. But what would that get me ?
Criminal charges pressed, and missed work for possibly a very long time.. The younger me would have easily gone ballistic, but the more sensible, calmer, family man of today wouldn't do that, and didn't do that tonight..
I may be overreacting, and this may very well be sheer anger talking, but i think it's time to teach these kids some manners, the old school way, the likes of which would make them soil their pants, and run home crying to their bedroom at mom and dad's house.. To all of our members who may read this and maybe in the same age vicinity as these jerks, i'd like to say that i'm NOT pigeonholing your demographic, and if it seems like i am, then i apologize. One of these days these millennials will get what they deserve, and the end result may be unfortunate, or even tragic, which i sincerely hope never happens..
However, if this happens again, i may unleash a fury on the unlucky victim which will make him think twice before attempting behavior of sheer stupidity, ever again. I hope none of you ever have to experience the unpleasantness of what happened to me tonight, and even though it was actually nothing, it could have been a lot worse..Venting this experience makes me feel a lot better, and helps calm me down, but an hour ago, i was beyond anger and even began to feel like i was going to pass out from the blood rushing to my head ! LoLoLoLoLoLoLoLo:mad::mad: These are issues i've been working on for a couple of years now, but I have been doing a lot better..
On a final note, i'd like to know if any of you have experienced something like this, and what you did about it..
I think it would help venting some of these past aggressions out safely, for me that is ! ;)
Cheers,
Rob
