What I got at the show

From MastroSnare

That's so true.It seems impossible with technology so far to record a cymbal "correctly". I've never heard a cymbal recorded that sounded the same as the cymbal. And how would you play it back? They usually quote the human hearing as being 20Hz to 20KHz, but there were some studies that said more than 1/2 of a cymbal's sound energy was over 100KHz! And there have been other studies that suggest that while we cannot hear that high, vibrations over 100KHz have a big affect on how we emotionally perceive the sound - how it makes us feel.

Yes I also read about those same studies and I found that information to be very interesting, especially the part about how vibrations over 100KHz have a big affect on how we emotionally perceive the sound. And I believe it too.

In the end, all I know is that I really dig what they're saying to me.

I dig.

There's that thing where you're walking down a hallway that leads to a club, and as you get near the entrance you hear the live cymbals... I've never heard that from a recording or a sample.

I doubt whether you could blindfold me and play a cymbal and then a recorded cymbal going through a speaker and fool me as to which was which.

Hey, mine was a serious one. Please keep me in mind when that day does arrive. My wife even liked the sound. That says something.

Yes I often ask for wife's opinion on cymbals too.

Just a little aside concerning this last cymbal.

I bought this at the show for less than market value. About one hour later someone came to my exhibitor space and tried to by it from me. I told him that it wasn't for sale. So he tried to coerce me into selling to him offering me $3000, then $4000, and finally he got up to $5000. He had the wad of cash with him to back it up because he pulled it out. Despite his offers I still turned him down. I think that sometimes a cymbal is worth more than just its monetary value.

Now that's what i joined this site for, great examples of fine cymbals!

Drumaholic, these are the types of sounds i'm looking for and as Branson asked earlier in this thread what show are you refering to?

Also i see trans stamp A's on ebay pretty often, what's a fair price for a 20 ride? BTW i was watching one and recently ended (i forgot about it), an 18" sizzle (ride?) ended at $68.00+s/h. So i guess the deals are still out there!

Gary.
