I'd guess that's a late 50's or early 60's WFL or Ludwig with some other brand of older double flange hoops on it. Hard to say for certain but the interior doesn't look like a MIJ drum to me. I don't see any extra holes either.

Thanks very much and it is a bit of strange one. There are no extra holes, but there is a tiny bit of damage on the inside around one of the lugs but nothing serious. I'm just surprised that there is no name anywhere on any of it and if it was a Ludwig or WFL I would have expected to see something on it, maybe on the throw or the hoop somewhere. I've also never come across a Ludwig or WFL with no air vent in it either.

I agree with K.O. Could have also been a cut-down marching snare drum with random parts thrown on. Post more pics when you have it in your possession!

hey Gerard, it certainly looks Ludwig from inside the drum. I've not seen an MIJ drum that looks similar. I agree with KO that it looks late 50s/early 60s mahogany and Aaron's suggestion that it could be a cut down marcher seems possible. Is that strainer not the type usually seen on marching drums? And has that bottom re-ring been re-glued in post factory? Should be a cool drum anyway. Just call it a "rare" non vent hole, pre-badge LudwigCool Dude

Thanks as always for your input Andrew. It's rather a curious little drum and I'm interested in how it will look and sound once I've finished tidying it up. I hadn't considered that it might be a cut down marcher but that would certainly explain the absent air vent hole & badge. It might appear on Trade Me in in due course once I've finished it!
