What does a magnet say, Iron or no ?
What Happened Here?

The only "iron" parts of any lugs would be the spring, the swivel nut, and the bolts that hold it onto the shell, which would all be steel. The die-cast portion is made of a Zinc alloy.

Never have seen lugs that bad.. particularly Slingerland.. Wonder if they spent some time stored in that bad batch of Gator cases??
Cheers

Bingo! I think this is it. MIJ SL copy does not have the 2 nubs that locate the lug to the shell. I had 12 old MIJ lugs that were dead ringers for Slingerland. The seasoned vets here explained the difference when I first joined VDF. Looking at the "bottoms" pic of your I don't see the nubs. Just flat spots like the MIJ copy has. Would explain the shape they are in. I've never seen any Slingerland lugs that bad.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
I believe we could call those "Nubs" as "Extended Bosses".
When I worked in toys, the cylinders with holes in them, that accepted screws, to put 2 halves of a toy housing together, were called bosses.
My 2 cents.

Yes extended bosses would be the correct term. I often refer to them as nubs or even knorbs. :)

I like the terms "nubs" and "knorbs."
Another good one is "nerps."
