What Glue?

Loading...

Guys,

Reinforcment ring is coming away from the shell of my tone flgnage drum, I want to do a repair but not sure what gule to use. Is standard PVA wood glue the correct thing.

Also wrap is just lifting very slightly and want to glue this also, what's best to use to stick the wrap back down.

When the tone flange is back on the drum this will stop any further problems with the wrap, just don't want to leave it with any problems.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I like Titebond extend. It has a longer setup time which for me is nice.

I've had success with just about any brand of wood/carpenter's glue... available at any hardware store or lumber yard (or walmart, target, kmart, etc.).

I've even had success with just plain old Elmer's glue (you know, the white stuff that dries clear).

Hi Dave,

If you can separate the seam a good bit, brush contact cement on each piece (shell and wrap) but don't let them touch until each is tacky, maybe 5 minutes. If they do not separate enough I have used two part epoxy and stuffed it in the crevice. Either method make sure you tape off where you don't want glue. I then clamp the area for several hours.

Guys,

Thanks so much for your tips/advice.

Bondo,

Many thanks, I'll use your tip of separating the seam, and then the contact cement, I'll take my time, no rush.

Standard wood glue in between the shell and re ring. Contact cement for the wrap.

longjohn,

I am listening and learing also.

Thanks guys.
