On a different thread I decided to pose a new general topic-
Out of all the drums you've owned or played, which ones do you wish you'd never sold,or HAD bought,or made the "all the money"offer.
In and around '83,I was living in Florida and gigging ALOT-a regular 2/3 night weekend band and days with my then brother-in law doing mall gigs-fashion show, talent contest, etc.During this period we hooked up a dance band gig at the New Port Richie,FL.senior center.Sunday afternoons 4-7pm.Usually I'd have to RUN to my regular Sunday night weekend gig,so the man who ran the senior center suggested I use their house set, donated by a resident.
It turned out to be a Club Date 12-14-20 with a wood snare and nickel hardware, and was the best sounding set I had,or have EVER played.Grey Marine pearl, mahogany with rerings. We'd play dance tunes from the 40's and up,and it was like I was channelling the previous owner-one hundred seniors dancing the hully-gully or dancing the fox-trot to Boo Hoo by Guy Lombardo. It was an amazing time warp experience that I'll never forget.
