Hello,

Im trying to figure out what these drums are. ive never seen offset lugs on a drum this old before. no badges but it looks like the shells are mahogany with hoops. not 100% sure though. any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks ![Attachment: 84508]

Welcome to the forum!

Very cool drums! The lugs appear to be WFL (Ludwig) Zephyr, which, I believe, were used during WW2, or there about. The drums are also WFL. Hopefully, others will chime in on this one!

Mark is correct they are zephyr lugged WFL drums, this lug was used up until the 50's. It is one of my favorite lugs, simple in design, and flat out work well.

Thanks for confirming this! "Zephyr" and "WFL" were my gut response, without even looking anything up.

awesome guys. i appreciate the info. was the offset lug pattern common back then? i have dealt with many vintage drums in the past and never have seen that. they definitely need some clean up and tlc. i will post some more detailed pictures soon. im looking forward to getting them back in action. i may need advice on restoration techniques. does anybody have an idea of wht these would be worth? its just the 2 drums. thanks again !

Yes that was the way the zephyr mounted toms came.

Nice...but a matching 2 adjustable headed FT w/zephyr lugs? "Probly" not....usually bottom tacked with a cradle. I wonder what the hole spacing is on Zephyr lugs? Same as Imperial?

so you are saying they didnt make the floor tom with adjustable heads on both ends even though the rack has 2 heads? thats interesting. i have seen the tacked on bottom heads but would figure they would build the drums the same if they are all part of the same kit. either way, i am looking to get a floor tom that matches even if it has the tacked on bottom head.

Does anybody have an idea of what these are worth? I've got the 26 kick, 11" Tom, 13" Tom and 14x7 snare. The bearing edges on the toms are just flat. Kinda trippy. I've never seen that. Is it against the "vintage drum" rules to redo the edges on these? I'm looking forward to getting these cleaned up and in playable condition. They definitely need a little TLC.

The toms from this era had flat bearing edges as you found out and aren't that great sounding. I am a fairly staunch purist, so I would hate to see you re cut the bearing edges. but if you do I would cut them to 30 degrees roundover. your gonna have a hard time finding the floor tom for this kit.
