So again, I happened to look in the right place at the right time, and I came away with another set of amazing vintage drums, and a lighter wallet. Picked up yesterday.
The first pic shows the extent of visuals in the ad. "Drums", it said. Called and confirmed the WFL badge, and that was all it took to get me on the road again. The owner was a fine gentleman, 74 years old, downsizing the household. Said he had had this kit since he was about 12 years old, sold to him by his drum instructor in Philly. The nice thing was I was able to explain to him that the Damen Ave badge placed the kit between 1948-1952, so it all lined up and he knew his kit was going in the right hands.
Sizes are 14x22, 9x13, 16x16, and 5.5x14, so real close to the Super Classic shown endorsed by BR in the 1951 catalog. A few light age spots on the kick and 13, but very very clean wrap for its age. Chrome is incredibly clean, save for the spur mounts. The only mod I see is the aftermarket cymbal mount where the WFL 'shelmount' used to be; hopefully a replacement will cover the two small extra holes. Full inlays and hoops are in great shape for nearly 65-70 years old. Snare throw off has the round adjustment knob missing.
Included were a 18" and 14" 50s small stamp Zildjians, and an 18" sizzle trans stamp type 3. And a Rogers swivo two-piece pedal.
I played the snare (and cymbals) last night in practice, and it was awesome just the way it was.
I'll do a more thorough check this weekend. Unfortunately, I promised my newest Rogers residents that they would get the clean-up treatment first, so the line forms in the rear. The silver sparkle Cleveland 12/14/20 is almost done.
