No, it only works well on covered shells.

About 5 years ago, a friend had an early 50’s Gretsch Name Band kit with a matching 6.5” snare! Although the FT was a late 50’s Slingerland in Red Sparkle, the reason he sprayed them. ☹️ They were sprayed gold back on some pot trip in the 60’s. Needless to say it was quite a project. Over 50 hours! I came up with a method that worked excellent! It was expensive and while the owner appreciated it, he had no clue what it took to get them to the restored beauty they became.

400 grit until you see wrap.

600 to make most of the paint gone.

1000 to smooth it out.

1500 to smooth it more.

2000 gives it a more polishable finish.

Then, a headlight restoration kit. 1-2-3-4, the 4 is like 5000 grit.😆

Then Novus 2 and 1 for the shine.

All by hand, about 6-8 square inches at a time! Blisters, blowing dust out of your nose, sweat, and some blood too!

Good luck!

Hello Magnus, Here it what I did. I called 3M company and asked them what would work for this project. They suggested 3M Safest Stripper. ...

I've e-mailed 3M in Sweden (where I live) and asked about this product. Fingers crossed now, for its availability in the EU.

Best,

Magnus

No success with the 3M product. 3M Sweden just told me that they don't offer this product in Sweden, nor do they find it anywhere else at the moment, including the US...

Hello Magnus,

This product is sold at Lowes and may be the same thing. Dumond Smart Strip. I would call the company and ask them if its the same. Hope it helps. I didn't know they discontinued the 3M product. Round Badge

Magnus, if you care to take the time, and your heart is set on it, if you can find the 3m or similar product here in the U.S., I'd be more than glad to get it and send it to you. Problem is, because I have no experience, will both of our postal systems allow shipment of the stuff? D.

Hi Dean,

That is a more than kind offer, thank you so much. However, I too doubt that these products are allowed in the EU and that that is the reason why they are not available here...

At the moment, I am considering having my kit rewrapped. Or, to just let it be. It sounds great as it is, even though it looks kind of naff.

Best,

Magnus
