It's coming to that time in my restore/mod where I have to decide whether I stain or wrap my late 50's Gretsch 3-ply drums. I've researched, and have found from my info that the only Gretsch drums that were stained were the orchestra/marching band equipment.

Were the Gretsch drum sets coming new from the factory ever stained? I see a lot of vintage sets that are now stained, but were they all originally wrapped? The catalogs only show wraps available; No stains. If there were stains sent from the factory, which stains were available? (I know, there were some lacquer finishes too, but stain?)
