Cheapest and quickest way I know of is go to a sporting goods store that restrings rackets.
They sell gut snares in a package and you can just cut to your desired length.
Here's a hint if you want a crisp sound that doesn't vary in humid weather,get a bottle of hair spray and coat them with it.
