I have a 1958 W&A snare in Anniversary Sparkle that is missing a strainer part. After years of searching, I found (what I though to be) a replacement part. It turns out it is a later version and doesn't fit:( Apparently there are two versions of this strainer and the parts are not interchangeable.

Now my question. Does anyone have this part or strainer they could part with? I would even be willing to pay someone to machine it but I don't have the specs to get it right. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Snare is pictured with original strainer. The part pictured is the later version. The last photo is another W&A snare with the strainer cover I actually need. It has a raised dome to accommodate the strainer and is a bit taller.

I have the 5.5" version of that same drum in the same finish. I wish I had some extra parts for you, but finding a replacement will be a challenge. That strainer is an old Rogers strainer that is near impossible to find parts for. Forget about finding W&A parts altogether. When I was out there looking, it was a nightmare. Try the Rogers guys here. One of them 'may' be able to help you out. It's going to be a tough find.

Looking at the part, you wouldn't need a machinist to fabricate that, just a vice or form [maybe a brake], a length of flat stock, and a metal drill bit. Maybe a dremmel to round the corners...

It's just a piece of metal with 4 flanges and 4 holes. I mean if the actual part is near impossible to find...

There's a dimple in the middle of the plate (that accommodates the throw switch) that would be hard to make. Without a mold to place it exactly right on the plate and that you could pound it into to get that dome right while keeping the rest of the surface flat, round off corners etc. would be a tough one to pull off. Especially considering the fact that he doesn't have a spare to use as a model for measuring.

A machine shop would best be set-up to manufacture the part. Maybe he can try a local technical college like I did for Big Blue and have the students make it! It won't cost much at all, I made a small donation to the school, paid for materials and got my metal work done and done well.

Better to have a machine shop make the reproduction, it's a really tough DIY project.

Nathan - If you want to have the part machined, I can measure the one on my drum and you can use the specs to have the part manufactured.
