vintage Zildjian "medium dance" ride?

Loading...

Hey all,

I picked this cymbal up last weekend...anyone have any info on it? It's an 18'...ride cymbal I guess? It's medium-weight, if that's how you say it...

I found an ebay auction with a similar cymbal in 20", but no real info. They claimed it was a 1960's. Is it? Any thoughts?

Early 1970's would be my guess.

Fair enough...

BTW, shouldn't my stamp say "made in USA" at the bottom? Or not all the time?

For the most part yes. But a few have been seen missing that part.

I would say 70s as well - thin stamp with no dots.

Here's an ebay posting of the same cymbal, but 20", not 18":

[Edit:] Oh no...I see it now. Those three dots gotta be there, hey? Then this cymbal and mine aren't quite identical.

Hello everyone...this cymbal was made in Canada back when Zildjian was making their Ks in New Brunswick. Some of the A production was done their as well. Some of them had the "Made in Canada" stamp and some of them did not. I have several examples of both.

This was a confusing time for the company following Avedis' death. He had previously secured the "K. Zildjian" trademark and had started producing them here in Canada from Turkish blanks utilizing the same turkish guys who worked at the Istanbul plant. This was the period when the fight began between Robert and Armand Zildjian about which of the two sons was going to control the company.

O.K., so that confirms that it must be 1970's and no earlier.

Late 1970s...No later. The confusion within the company caused a question...were they going to continue production in the US or make them all in Canada where they had set up an equal sized plant. Also...their premium cymbals (Ks) were being made in Canada...so there was a brief period where they did not know whether to stamp Made in Canada or Made in USA on them....the result was for a while they stamped nothing on Canadian made cymbals. The US made cymbals ALL had Made in USA stamped.

BTW awc380....Nice Cymbal!
