I read somewhere online--I wish I could recall it so I could link it--that modern drum keys don't work properly on vintage drums (especially Gretsch) because the lug shakes are different. The writer said that modern keys work but could event silly strip the lugs. Anyone else hear this?

There are some larger or smaller sized vintage rod sockets, but, for the most part, modern keys will fit them...
Cheers

Know not what "lug shakes" would be but yes older tension rods may require an older key for proper fit. Just a tad larger.
A key used for tension rod adjustment can not harm the lugs to my knowledge. Granted limited.

Nothing special here but I like them.

That's what I thought. I've used modern keys on my Gretsch kits with no trouble. I'd never heard such a thing before, and it seemed incorrect, as my experience demonstrated otherwise.

I love my snap in drum key, my Iron Cobra pedal key or my Sonor drum throne keys. I do like the 70's Ludwig drum keys also.
