Vintage Supraphonic good buy? Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Hi there

I've been looking for a vintage Supra for a while.

This came up on my local Kijiji site, and he was asking $160 for the drum.

I've got him down to $145 and although it's a bit rough, would this be a good price for a vintage Supra?

Cheers, Phil

I`d say go for it...Supras are prone to pitting...You will have a nice snare once it is cleaned up...According to the keystone badge serial number, it is of 1967 vintage...

As far as pitting goes, that 60's supra isn't too bad at all and worth the price.A lot of that rust comes off with a little work, and in return you'll have a drum with a legendary sound and reputation.

Sounds like a fair price to me. It looks like it will clean up very nicely. Has the baseball bat muffler too (looks to be just before they switched over). That just adds to the cool factor in my books. I'd buy it!

I think you got a good deal. I would have bought it without even trying to get a lower price. Good job!

This looks very similar to my own Supra...it's a PLAYER! It was manufactured in April or May of '67 with a baseball bat muffler and Ludalloy shell. The price is right and it will clean up nicely. There is a reason why Gary Chester and Hal Blaine made this the "drum of 1000 Hits"...it can be tuned, muted and muffled to accomodate almost any style, without changing the standard heads. If you are looking for a drum to gig with and not a museum piece, then this is your shot to get one at a good price.

That's a good price for a great drum. Nab it!

Thanks for all your input folks.

Well, I picked her up today, and i'm actually astounded at the basic condition of the drum. Very dirty, yes, with some surface rust in the seams and on the hoops, but there is literally NO pitting on the shell itself! In fact, I just took a cloth with some windex to about a 3 inch area, then applied a few drops of Mothers chrome polish, and it looks like a freakin' mirror!

All is in round, and apart from 3 snare side tension rods that were missing (which i have), it's going to be an awesome drum.

I'll post some pics as the process gets underway.

Cheers, Phil
