Vintage Shells

I have a set (20" kick, 10 ahd 12 mounted toms, 16 floor tom) of Ludwig drums I bought new in '68. If I remember from the date stamp on the inside of the shells, they were built October '67 and I bought them around March of '68. Originally was the "Ginger Baker" double kick drum setup, But I sold one of the bass drums many years ago to a guy out in California. The shells are in good shape, but missing some rims and lugs. Original overlay was "Mod Orange" but finish is long since damaged and painted over. Years ago, I removed the bottom head lugs and played them with batter heads only. If I only knew then what I know now...All the original badges are still affixed at least. What are they worth? Also have the original fiber cases I bought with them, As you can see from the pic with the badge, the wrap is split. That's why I painted and then contact papered the shells. The top edges are real good and, for the most part, the bottom edges also. Hope this helps. I'll post more of the drum pics if interested, but generally, all the drums are in basically this condition.

Your location might also influence value. I'd love to see pics to determine if the wrap is salvageable. It'll also help to see what state the bearing edges are in, in particular the bottom edges.

Are you sure it's a 10" small tom? That wasn't a cataloged size in 1968. Mod orange is now a desired color so if the wrap is salvageable under the paint they will be worth a fair amount more than if it isn't.

Sorry, I had the same thought about the mounted toms. They are 12 and 13". The wrap is not salvageable and would have to be replaced. This color was really prone to fading. I removed the wrap from the 12" tom down to the mahogany veneer. Real pretty, but, sadly, not original anymore. That's why the wrap was painted over, there was almost nothing left of the original pattern, the purple was almost completely faded into the orange. I will get them cleaned up and attach some detailed pics.

Ok folks, I think I finally have the drum sizes right. What I am looking for is a ballpark value on the shells. Not holding anyone to it, just trying to figure out whether to restore them myself, or sell the shells. The drums are 12, 13, 16, and 20". The three toms and a kick. Wrap will have to be replaced. Bearing edges on top are good, bottoms a little rough in places, but workable. They have been set up in a practice room for 20+ years. All have the original badges. Rims and lugs on batter side only. All mounting hardware is there in good shape and the fiber cases would go with them.
