Vintage Premier snare drum identification

Loading...

Hi All. I picked this snare drum up about 25 yrs ago because I thought it was interesting. I'm not exactly sure what it is or what the value may be as it's been tough finding info on Premier. It's 5 1/2" x 14", 8 lugs, and has slotted tension rods. I think it may be from the 1940's as the badge might indicate. There are slots in the shell on either end behind the strainer and I'm not sure what they're for. It appears to be a maple shell. Can anyone in the community help identify this drum?

It looks like a Super Ace that lost it's original strainer and muffler. Looks to be a Slingerland 3 point on there now. Cool drum. No idea how easy to find the original parts these days. Hopefully the experts will chime in for you.

The badge is from the 1930s, but I very much doubt it's original to the drum - it's been tampered. The lugs, wrap and slots on the side point to a Super Ace that is missing its original parallel mechanism - which is a pain, since it's very difficult to find those. European makers didn't use maple as a rule, this is most probably birch with birch re-rings (beech was also used for those later on). I'm including a link for you to see.

Nice drum
