Vintage Premier shell pack 1960's

Yes, the Premier's going - trying to keep up with my one in one out policy! This is a pre-international 1960's model, 20, 16, 13, 12, finished in natural honey wood, because the wrap was removed. The chrome is in excellent condition and the bass drum has its original legs and swiv-omatic cymbal arm mount. There are no Premier badges save for the floor tom however, and floor and 13" have no internal mufflers. The kit has been modernised to a degree with the fitting of an oval style tom mount system, though this in itself is still vintage.

Also included in the sale is the oval tom mount and a non-vintage cymbal arm which fits the swivomatic.

I'm in the UK, bear in mind, but I know there are some UK folk on here. I'd be willing to ship overseas, but I guess some of you will know better than me the costs involved.

Anyway, I'm looking for £160 for the four drums. £150, if you were to pay any other way than paypal.

Just a couple of questions. Are they standard or metric? Are they African Mahogany on the inside? Thanks.

Hi! If standard is pre-international, then they are standard. Not 100% on my terminology! Basically, I can't fit a modern 16" tom skin on the floor, but a modern 12" skin goes fine on the 12" tom. I've never tried the other toms, but a 16" tom fitting problem is I'm told a sure sign of a pre-international size kit.

As for the wood, If I'm honest I don't know what African Mahogany looks like! Most vintage Premier stuff was birch, but these drums don't look like birch on the inside - not as dark. It's pretty much like the colour on the shells, but without the shine.

Thank you. That makes them metric. Also, if the outside looks like the inside, then they are not African Mahogany. I appreciate your time.

No probs. just out of interest, what does African Mahogany look like? And, what are mine? They don't look like birch, but I don't think Premier used maple then.

African Mahogany is a beautiful dark rich (almost reddish) grained wood. It is extremely resonant and has a fundamental much deeper than birch or maple. Consequently, a small jazz sized kit can really put out some deep tones. Very multipurpose drums.

If you ever play a 100% AM set, you will understand why. It is the single most amazing wood I've ever played. I love the wood. The mixed ply sound is ok, but the pure AM is something very special. Seek it out and take the time behind the kit. Try heads and tensioning. It's unreal. Understand that I've owned quite a few kits over the years. None approach the sound and texture of pure AM. None. I've got some video of my kit live and studio and even in my rehearsal room. I'll post a private thing for you if you so desire. I'm always reluctant to post those "Hey! Look at me play!" things. It seems that each time I do there's some stupid discussion or comment about what I'm not doing even though the video shows me doing it type of banter and I end up pulling it off. "Hey, you're not playing that cymbal with your nose!" and I have to say, "Check the video out. That's my nose hitting that cymbal." You get the point. It's just not worth the hassle. I don't have the room in my life for that childish garbage. Let me know.
