Found this old Meinl 14" crash cymbal today. Wondering if anyone knows how old it is. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

"Founded in 1951 by Roland Meinl. they are noted for their fibreglass congas, and plywood gongs, which proved for many percussionists that such modern materials could be used in this musical application, and similar innovations."

I have never seen a Meinl that looks like that, they did not offer a professional series until the early 80's.It does not look like B-8 alloy to me,actually it looks like it could be B-20,but I don't know if meinl used b-20 early on,and that thing looks it could be 50's 60' vintage.

It looks like a nickelbronze, cheaper alloy used for low-end cymbals then.

Also, the cymbal is kinda bent - not sure if anything can be done with that, same thing happened to my old Paiste, but in a milder way.

Anyway, the thing that is most important (maybe the only important thing): How does it sound?

Gilnar has it right (about the cymbal, not the gongs Mind Blowi).

It's an NS12 nickelbronze alloy one from the 60's. If it weren't warped, it might be pretty half-decent. But, oomph...ain't no way that warp ISN'T effecting the sound....

In good shape, these go for around $50-60 on the used market...

Thanks for the replies everyone. It sounds interesting, but I don't have the room for it. Probably going to put it up on ebay soon.
