Hi there - I am in the process of restoring a 1971 SBP Ludwig 22" bass drum and 16" floor tom. My job is virtually complete but I need to stick the Blue Sky Pearl inlays onto the bass drum hoops now. What glue would you guys suggest I use? I see some sites mention tape?
These drums are in great shape - the wrap is like new (obviously faded but no scratches or other marks) and the bearing edges are in very good condition as is the inside of the shells. All 100% original and no extra holes. Some pitting on the lugs which I tried my best with. The marks are there but they shine at least. I also have original Ludwig heads for both drums but will be replacing both batter heads - 16" with a Remo Coated and not sure about the kick as yet.
As for a 13" tom, I could not find a similar era (blue/Olive badge and clear maple inside) tom in SBP but found one in Marine White Pearl - it is a 1970 drum with clear inner and blue/olive badge - so unfortunately the tom will not match color wise but i think it may actually look quite cool. Waiting for the tom to arrive from the USA.
