Vintage Ludwig removal of wrap glue

Loading...

The wrapping my 70s black oyster floor Tom has shrunk and lifted little over the years so I’m going to stick the wrap down again. I would like to remove the exposed glue from the wrap too as it’s unsightly. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this? Here’s some pictureS to show what I mean.

I've had success with lighter fluid. Just get the yellow Ronsonol bottle at Walgreens and that works well. I use a microfiber cloth. It will take some elbow grease, but it will work and the lighter fluid will not damage the wrap. Some swear by Goof Off or Goo Gone, but I find those not to work as well as lighter fluid. There is also a spray product called "Contractor's De-Solve-It" that seems to work well too, although this leaves a greasy residue on the wrap.

Do NOT use acetone/nail polish remover or anything similar, like paint thinner or lacquer thinner. That will melt the wrap!
