Sold !

For sale is this Vintage 1970 Gretsch 16X16 Floor Tom (First stop sign badge, model #4418). I recently disassembled and cleaned the tom, polished all the chrome and cleaned and oiled the lug screws. It has all its original hardware complete with both working mufflers. The outer shell has a few minor scratches and two blemishes which are barely noticeable. The chrome die cast rims, lugs and diamond leg mounts are in excellent condition with no major pitting or rust. The tom has a very sweet sound and as you can see from the pictures it’s in exceptional condition.

Asking Price is ………. $395.00

What finish is that? Looks to be slightly yellowed white. Nice looking drum.

I descride it as a cream color flat pearl finish. I'v only seen one other set with this color and I have not found it in any any catalogs. Maybe someone knows !

If you check out the picture without the heads on you'll see that it's the natural color. Pretty unique I think !

I would have thought that it's White Nitron that's yellowed some with age. I recently found a set in that finish, basically same era as yours, for a friend in NYC.

I recally doing some research at the time and there isn't much catalog mention of white nitron. But I did find somewhere that Elvin Jones played Gretsch in that finish and saw a pic as well I think.

Based on the research of another forum member if I recall that drum is from the earliest era of SSB drums based on the serial number.

I have a Stop Sign badge floor tom that had the same wrap. I was never certain if it was original or a rewrap. My leaning was that it was not original. Mine was covered with blue fur when I bought it. The wrap cold not be salvaged, so it was rewrapped.

Rick,

I bought my drums new in 1970 and they all have the same wrap. This is the origional wrap with only one owner. What would make you think the wrap under the fur wasn't original? Check out my 13X9 tom listing from the same set.
