Well if $6 plus $7 shipping for 1 ludwig lug mounting screw (hex style) is any indication of vintage values, I would say value is only going up. Seriously if people are really going to pay that much, I am going to disassemble on my drums and sell the lug screws and be rich!!!

1971 Camco Chanute Champ Sparkle, jazz sizes
1961 Ludwig SBP 4 piece
1960's John Grey set in WMP
1999 Ludwig Fab Four BOP 4 piece
1991 PUrecussion set Ha Ha, love

I hate to say it but .." He who passes with the least Toys wins "Yes the world has changed : ) Getting out of these Gems we have culled and acquired over the years (the good years...(remember those?)Getting out....Is the monumental task Gettng in was enjoyable~ Now we have monitored transactions anything over 600 is taxed; Shipping night mare stories, Social Distancing (say what?) He who passes with the least Wins

jda!!

I'm there with you on this! Collecting all my drums was a very fun and enjoyable endeavor. Now, I'm at that age where many of my drums need to find new homes. I now prefer PayPal for my transactions, but not the "friends" option. While this will get me to well over $600 quickly, I prefer this for bookkeeping purposes. That, plus I do get very good shipping rates through PayStation.

Bottom line is that I need to downsize on the many drums and kits I have!

So before the internet....

Drums, snares, bass drums, Cymbals, were up in attics and down in basements.

Also the internet put a person in Chicago in instant (and free) contact with someone in eastern Pa. Or Spain. ( remember toll calls?)

Let's say 1998

Was the Great Clean out.

Where all treasures were brought once again "into the sunlight" .

This time though..might it be different.

Mark,

Kindly expand a bit on your experience with shipping via PayStation. I have a couple of kits to sell, but I hate quoting on the shipping. A couple of years ago, I might say, $125 East Coast, $150 middle and $175 to CA, but I doubt that would do it any longer. I don't like packing, but local pickup is not brilliant if you are not close to an urban area where there are a lot of drummers.

I have not tried to sell any of my vintage drums yet..but I think it's gonna be a real bear to get rid of stuff..when I finally do..

Why..

Old guys are the main ones interested in vintage..and they are dyin out..or broke..or not interested anymore..

People are holding on to their cash right now..and for good reason..

Enthusiasm is down..war in Europe..pandemic etc..

Youngsters dont have the cash..it goes on and on..

Basically..there is a minute fraction of the market that will buy..and probably have to give em away at great pricing to move em..esp if you own a lot of stuff..

Best to hold on until times get better..

Best time to sell was a long time ago..

I dont see this getting better soon..

It will probably get even worse..

Local pickup w/cash only sale..at a good price for both..is the way of the future.

From Mike Curotto

I see it as pretty simple, at least in the vintage drum market...recession or not, those that have the wherewithal will still be buying vintage drums at any price. Mike Curotto

Exactly..This goes for any collectible items..Those with money do not think like those of us that have limited funds..There are people out there that routinely go out on the Town one night, and blow 1500.00 on nothing but a good time and do not bat an eye..Those people will always buy what they want, and the cost matters little to them..

There is plenty of money out there..Just most of it is in someone elses hands, not mine,LOL

People w/cash to spare..are gonna buy a Rolex..or something like that..not an old drum set..

Middle class..are worried about their mortgage or..food..

And real drummers.. who might actually be interested..are usually..broke..

Just look at the around at the activity & interest here on this site..basically non existant..

There is less money around than you might think..

2022 for my business in antique instruments..(not drums)..has basically died after 30 years in the biz..I have never seen anything like this..

Unless you are actually selling stuff for your income..you probably dont know..how bad it is out there right now.
