Looking to purchase some ear protection headphones. Any comments on the Vic Firth Isolation headphones or a suitable Bose line?

Need for ear protection and playing along with my favorite Steely D/TOP music.

Thanks..Roggie

I also love the Vics. They are super comfortable, I can wear them for hours at a stretch.

If you are thinking about Bose because of noise canceling, that doesn't work well with things that aren't steady droning sounds like airplane noise. Sudden bursts of sound (say hitting a drum or cymbal ;) ) is a different story.

If you are thinking about Bose for other reasons, I'd urge you to try other brands before you commit to Bose prices. I did. Now I've got Sony pro isolating headphones (MDR-7506) which work well for me. I can listen to music with good quality reproduction (especially for the price) and drum along. The only issue is that they aren't designed to dampen the sound evenly across the frequency spectrum so they color the drums and cymbals. But the music track sounds great. Of course if you have mics and a mixer...

I used to have a pair of Metrophones (built in metronome) but I found they were so tight I couldn't stand them very long...no matter how I tried to modify them they were uncomfortable. Felt like my ears were going to meet in the middle of my brain under all the pressure. Your ears may vary. Sounds like the Vic Firth ones don't suffer from that, but I haven't tried them.

Vic Firth headphone users: how flat is the frequency response? Do the drums and cymbals sound natural but quieter?

*** edit *** I see the street price for the Vic Firth is $50 vs $85 for the MDR-7506. Boy is that inexpensive. I wonder, you Vic Firth headphone users: how good is the sound quality of them as just headphones? Have you compared them to quality headphones: Sony, Sennheiser, etc?
