There's some good color in the sound, but personally I like to hear just a little more "dirt" in my old K's. When I first saw the photo, to me it looked like an 18" instead of a 22" until I read the description. Now it still looks like an 18".

Think it's characteristic IV...I mean if you have a IV in front of you...it has those characteristic/s. Which leads me again to- the same team- made an era- was disbanded- insignia changed on restart up- and new workers-new forman- new something /changed/

with every insignia change/ I see very little overlap (besides "geez this is god awful beautiful) But looked at closely- each run thruout an era---were like paintings done by the same team of painters!) I don't know how else to explain it..

~ How many times did the letterhead change/ the "owner" proprietor/ change/

Were there "slow" periods where a "team" of workers were disbanded sent home (and maybe withina month or two later) New workers- Insignia change- workers/style/ change(d)..

It's just crazy how - within an era- (that you documented Bill as does, the stamp)- consistent- they are. besides weight irregardless

~

Why does the stamp change coincide so closely with a build change? That's the eternal mystery to me on that level.

It's a wonderful mystery but must be a practical reason..

And that's the only/best one/ I can come up with.

there were lulls/production abandoned/ shut down/ then a regrouping..restart

six times ...around there...maybe 4..

How did the Build evolution of the K coincide so close with the insignia change.

Somebody was directing it..Or it was a consensus..of change/evolution..somewhere in that building..

~

that IV is like everyone else's IV (besides exact gram ...diameter specific, and irregardless) anywhere on the planet in posession . A IV is a IV . How did they do that.. An Intermediate is an Intermediate- on down the line from anywhere in anyones posession, determined by insignia.

How did they do that.

~

If you seen one you've seen a thousand or a 100 of them.(respective of stamp) within a stamp era, they were near carbon (no pun) copy's.

~

Talk about strict "quality" control and this is a near all hand-made instrument.

Must be like those Rolls-Royce factory men (and women) that put together bespoke interiors for clients (ha..

and they look 3D printed but are all handmade.

carbon-copy Mona Lisa's!-in 6 editions@!

or 3 or 4..(old stamps, Ints, NS

Sounds a bit in the neighborhood of Jon Christensen or maybe even Joe Chambers.

each run of an era (or the insignia)) had their characteristics. like 4 sound eras .Depending if you want to separate I, II, III or count them (and possibly IV) as One.

Intermediates '2'... New Stamps '3'.

You find the era someone famous used then find that era cymbal; you are about as close as you'll have to what they had (playing being the separating issue) but physically the cymbal? were very consistent thru out an era..

~

in others words say someone "just has to have" Art Blakeys 53-56 sound.

you don't go after 67-72 New Stamp. Doesn't work that way with old Ks. They weren't all the same ( as P Francis thinks/says..)

There's clearly defined, sound delineations. Pretty simple (cymple?) actually

~

Depending on what year one can zero in a little closer to what era sound of K it is. When Jon Christensen and others like him (ie famous) got their Ks and whether they were new or used at the time one can zero in a little closer to what era sound of K it is. (There's always that question did Williams get his K new at a Gretsch visit "that day" with Max (say in 61/62/63 or?) Or did Max Give him one on his- then the year- of the cymbal would be (more) Unknown..or less known(could have gone back to a '53 cymbal when Max was a Gretsch endorsee) one can zero in a little closer to what era sound of K it is.

Christensen's Old K..we've looked at it..from pics.. and what TBruce Whittet said about it..

https://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Jon_Christensen.html

I think it's just a '66-'67 New Stamp heavy (28xxg on up) And a sweet one; they all weren't made on a Monday but were prettyvery similar) And (it sure looks like my 2877g +/- early New Stamp (last 3 pic below) I've owned for 20 years)

Keep an eye on this one too. The Jazz-Rock Tony Williams- very New Stamp heavy-like (This is 2nd edition not the first 22 released the 2nd)

what the bottom of a Type IVb looks like "all cleaned" up.

DonnieB is selling he had the bottom lathed to shed some grams...but look at the hammering revealed

Usually don't get to see that...+/-

https://www.drumforum.org/threads/1959-k-zildjian-old-stamp-ivb-18-k-istanbul-turkish-ride-cymbal-1550-grams.176577/#post-1983474

and it started at 1886g and went to 1550g

assume thicker blanks were (able to be) pounded harder and maybe a with a different (looks large) peen hammer
