Great thread. I have never used one and now I may have to take a trip to one of those big box music stores to see if they will let me play with one. My ear is pretty shot with tuning as I get older.

I just thinks it's silly to use an electronic device to get the drum sound you want. Trust your ears and the feel of the tension on each lug. That's all you should need.

Because it's not a guitar. A guitar needs to be precise to get the correct note. A drum has no correct note, drums can be tensioned low, medium or high, they don't need to be in tune with the guitar, bass or any instrument. I've never once heard a guitarist say, heh, your drums are out of tune or you're not playing in the right key. Drums are unique in the sense that they don't have to be at a certain note to fit in with the music. Tension your drums until you hear the sound you want or what works best for the music you're playing.

So let me ask you something, suppose you tune your tom to a certain note, will you only hit that tom when the guitarist plays the same note? I'm sorry, but this is starting to turn into a ridiculous conversation. Do what you will.

I don't think you understand the concept of tuning intervals on the drum kit which is why you don't understand the value of the tool. Do a little research, do a little reading, maybe we can conversation about it that isn't ridiculous.

Intervals on a drum kit? This ain't rocket science. Do you think guys like Buddy Rich spent much time thinking about intervals on his kit? Ya tension the lugs until the darn thing sounds good, period!
