I think you're right, I can see them better now and the lines line up with the lugs, they probably are optional or even Ludwig production.

Well, I got the kit today. It’s really dirty, but it was a great deal and it looks fantastic. I’m going to take it apart and do a full clean and polish. The claws are die cast and they match the lugs.
