Jim, see an EN&T doctor and see what he/she can do for you. I have acute hearing loss, but fortunately, no tinnitus. I do get very occasional ringing in the ears, but it always goes away quickly. My loss is hereditary, mixed with loud music, drums, guitars, etc. I have lost a great deal of high end frequencies, and wear two hearing aids as a result.

My ringing is very similar to the loud ringing you remember when you left a Who concert back in the day. It's like that every minute of everyday, even Sunday's and holiday's! Lol! I've been to audiologists, both VA and private, and they are quick to tell me there's is nothing they can do. I have been for an MRI of the brain, and all is well there, although my wife might disagree! Maybe I will try and ENT doctor. It can't hurt.

I would like to find the right hearing protection though if I'm going to continue drumming, because it is getting worse. I'll have to shop around, there must be some good musicians hearing protection out there.

That constant ringing is a curse, and I feel for anyone who has it. Fortunately, I don't. Audiologists only diagnose ear problems and prescribe hearing aids. Only an EN&T can really help you.

I have tinnitus as well...I only have it only in my left ear...I don`t necessarily have the ringing, but, it is more of a tone (like a flat line on a heart monitor) I mainly only notice it when it is quiet around me...I`m used to it now...I am sure mine is only a mild case compared to others...

I use CAD Audio DH100 Drummer Isolation Headphones...I don`t use ear plugs underneath...I adjust the volume to where it is comfortable to hear the mix...Nothing more, nothing less...

A couple of questions - do they plug into your phone or tablet? Looks like it will with the 1/8 plug but I'm not sure. Are isolation headphones different than regular headphones? I'm trying to figure out how they reduce ambient noise by 19 decibels. That's pretty good as most earplugs run around 20-30 decibels.

Pretty normal life here- soundwise- stopped playing in rock bands around 84- worked in garages; car garages all my life nothing unusual as far as "sound intake".

Then a pain in the back of the neck hit me hard about 6-7 years ago- burned for about a month and couldn't get rid of it. When it left, my ears started ringing. Ok. Pretty bad. Then it slowly tapered off and I have a "light" tinnitus that I hear and sense come and go thruout the night and or day.

I think it has to do with circulation. Either "nerve" circulation or heartBlood circulation (just getting old (63/4.

I think it's a circulation problem; I've never had any extreme noise events, to speak of.. I think it's nerve circulation. Coming from the brain. the nicotine's and the caffeine's. Like right now. Nothing. Sometimes I'll put my head lay down on a shoulder and like a switch is flipped one ear will start a light ringing.

I think it's worn nerve circulation coming from the main circuit box (the brain..Some worn wires somewhere.

Not caused by external source but an internal (circulation) source.
