trouble with pedal clamping to bass drum Last viewed: 43 minutes ago

Loading...

Hey guys, I'm sure others have this problem at times.... pedals not clamping all the way down on the bass drum rim. Seems more of a problem with a modern pedal on a vintage rim.. anyhow, what do you guys (and gals) do to remedy this? I think I have seen some sort of a pad/block that glues to the interior of the rim so that the pedal clamps, but i dont know what they are called.

Any input or suggestions?

Justin - I think Gibralter makes a rubber strip that is meant to protect the wood rim of the bass drum. It'll add enough thickness so the pedal will have some bite to clamp it on. I have three of them that I use on different kits to protect the hoops.

Too many great drums to list here!

Yea, I always seem to have problems with it... speed king attaches perfectly, but my more modern pearl pedal doesnt, and the DW9000 pedal I used to have wouldn't either. I sold the 9000 a while back; just had way too many adjustment options and I never found a setting that I really liked.

Anyhow, Thanks John! I wasn't sure what company it was that made those.

You can buy a strip of carpet protector, Self adhesive... About 3mm thick,

Just cut to size.. Supermarkets have it..

I use on the underside of the hoop, or you may prefer to use on the pedal clamp area. I have on the underside of the front hoop as well , protects against damage and you cannot see it when set up..

Cheers

Some really great suggestions. I have to say I'm the cheap skate and just use a small piece of coragated cardboard from a box.

Stop in a bar and snatch a couple of their beer coasters. Tough material and still easy to fashion into the shape you want. Cut up pieces of rubber inner tube works too but I like coasters.

Believe it or else!
