Trans stamp question

Loading...

Hi, I'd like to ask about the trans stamp.

I have some of them and they all sound good.

My 16" don't have great hummering on the surface.

pics are here

Could this be a clue of particular years? I've heard that the trans stamps are from late 40s to early 50s. This is quite a long period of time, so I wonder if there were something like old k type very detailed observation.

Are there any other clues to identify them without deep "z" and "co"?

Mr Bill. I need your help!Bowing

Thank you.

It's true that late 40's to early 50's was a long period. It was too long for just one trademark, and manufacturing characteristics did change somewhat. But the trans stamp category contains 4 subtypes corresponding to 4 separate eras. Each of these can be identified though trademark characteristics alone.

As far as manufacturing characteristics are concerned, these follow a rough pattern but are not nearly as reliable as just the trademarks. For example I just got a 16-1/2 type I transitional that has typical manufacturing characteristics for the era. But then earlier this year I got one that is atypical. Its manufacturing characteristics are much more like a late era example of an Avedis old stamp type, but it also bears the same type I transitional stamp trade mark. From this I had to conclude that since the manufacturing characteristics are much more like those of the the earlier era, then it must be a very early type I.

The manufacturing characteristics didn't change suddenly with every new trademark. They changed more gradually. So from time to time you'll find a few rare examples that resemble the next earlier or the next later era. The same thing holds true for the K's. So its good to know both the trademarks and the manufacturing characteristics that correspond to them and much as possible in order to get as accurate a fix on the date as possible.

I don't like getting too specific about this sort of thing these days because I've had problems in the past with certain people stealing my intellectual property. Based on what I tell you here, I don't want to see this information used to beef up some "trademark expert wanabee's" home-made time line. You can see one of these up on the internet today. And the information it contains is so wrong that it's almost be laughable. Except some people are starting to use this information in their eBay ads. So as a result it becomes more pathetic than anything else.

So let's just say this:

All of those are from the early 1950's.

Dude! I've had the same thing happen! Those tiny orange freaks of nature sneak into my house in the middle of the night and attach that metal device to my noggin' so's they can drain my brain almost dry. Played heck on me during my college days (which were many). I've tried to tell my wife about them, but she still blames my forgetfulness on "shoving stupid drummer facts in there so there's no room left for life's functions". I'm so glad I'm not the only one that this happens to. Bless ya brother for coming clean and helping another victim out. I'm printing this one off as proof! Freakin' little orange mutant .......

Thank you. well, late 40" trans are much rarer than early 50s?

I see a lot of people says about wrong info of the 3 dots.

I might be one you say as "trademark expert wanabee". I don't wanna be a thief though.

Could you give me approximately era of these cymbals?

Someday everyone who wants to be a trademark expert will be able to.

You're right that the late 40's type are much rarer. Maybe only 5% or less of what's seen on eBay are in this category. But you'll notice that almost everyone on eBay now claims that their trans stamp is "from the 40's." And it's practically never true.
