Tosco hats Last viewed: 1 week ago

Hello all,

I've searched and read through several threads looking for some info on Tosco cymbals. I can't seem to find anything about this particular stamp, in fact I have yet to find even a picture of it on another cymbal...

I am trying to find out if they are from the Italy made-period or after. There is a round black stamp under the bell but it is illegible. another red stamp indicates the size. There is no mention of Sabian.

Anyone here know more about these?

BTW,do you have more clearer picture about the black stamp and red stamp?

Does the round stamp says "Made in Italy" like many other cymbals from the period?

The black stamp is too unclear to read, but I do assume it says made in Italy - that's what all the ones i've seen under the bell say. But maybe the 'Made in Canada' were the same?

The red has the size (14'' and 35 cm) on it. I can try to post better pics soon.

Ok I just picked them up and took some pictures.

Here's the logo, with a stamp logo through it.

Here's the ink stamp under the bell (also red, actually).

Looks like it says 'Made in Tuscany' and 'Italy'.

The cymbals measure exactly 35 cm., so a little under 14''. I wonder if they are from before Sabian's takeover (1979) or after, b20 or b8, machine or hand-hammered. They sound pretty good to my ears anyway, just curious! Any input would be appreciated.

To me, it also looks like it says Italy. I even remember one that said Tosco AND Sabian (Italian made) on it. Probably one that was already inked at takeover and Sabian was added to it. So far, it is this logo and one other without the circular stuff, that I have seen on Italian made Tosco pies. The logo was inked in the 6 o' clock position, whereas the later Canadian ones seem to always be inked at high noon. However, I am no expert on Tosco lines, so hopefully someone who is can chime in to confirm or deny the logo and ink position claims.

This may seem obvious by now - i just want to confirm that i have some italian made cb700 (tosco) that have the red ink on it (indicating type and size). As far as i can tell, these have the same lathing patterns. What i have long wondered is whether these are b8 or b20. or even something in between. i have heard arguments for both b8 znd b20.

Unfortunately i am not very knowledgable about tosco stamps and what they specifically represent.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I do not own any Tosco stamped cymbals, though I do know that most (or all) of the Italian CB700 were made by Tosco. These hats (OP) appear to be the same as my CB700 hats.

Interesting to see the NOS 20 inch Tosco Rides on the bay right now. They have different lathing than above, but of course (my guess) is that the Italian Tosco factory certainly made cymbals with more than one lathing pattern.

I'm curious about the alloy too. Judging from the color I'd say the hats are B20.

Some say the CB700's sound like/may be brass. The Tosco's I've seen sure don't sound and look like it to me. Have yet to see a CB-700 though. Curious how opinions on these cymbals are divided.

BTW,later CB700 that is made in Taiwan is made from Brass.

The original Tosco(Italy) made CB700 are made from B20 alloy.
