Some schmucks aren't above applying paint to fake a patina I guess. One of my favorite cymbals is a '60s A 20" that had had several coats of wood stain applied to make it "patinated." After I cleaned all that crud off, it proved to be a beautiful sounding instrument; wish I could find an equally great sounding 18" to go with it.
