Today I buried a cymbal!!!!!

to get a darker sound i use dark beer to keep the sauce just right but it has to go flat remember flat no bubbles or else !!!!

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp





once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Hey guys, In the last 10 yrs or so there's been a lot of so called "relicing" going on in the electric guitar parts/assembly game. Like folks who buy beat up jeans, many also prefer new guitars that look 50 yrs old and some of the guys that are building them are pretty good at making brand new brass, steel etc look naturally aged. (some are not so good)

Do some searching and you can probably find some info.

I am in the 'never-clean' camp. One of my old Zils looks like someone threw up on it, then wiped it on the grass. Great sounding - just don't try the scratch and sniff test.

Sabian: 1 of 100.

It can probably be found on youtube and others, but when Sabian announced they were burying the cymbals, there was a video that went around with some shots of the hole and some interviews.

When they dug everything up, they made some sound files of at least a few of the cymbals for people to hear the outcome. HOWEVER, I was never able to find a 'before' recording on the cymbals, so we have no idea what the outcome effect was!

The other thing, and I was very disappointed with this, they mounted the cymbals in display cases, along with a COA and some dirt from the hole. They sold them as collector pieces for an insane amount of money to the large drum shops (whom I am sure still have them mounted on the wall).

Anyway, that's what I know about the project!

It was obviously just a marketing ploy to call attention to Sabian, and the Artisan line. Even the "after" sound files are of limited use without knowing the recording environment, the microphones used and their placement, the EQ used, and last, but far from least, the sticks used. How they will sound on a gig, and in combination with other cymbals, is a whole other issue.

i just dug up my drum heads and snare wires from the fall of 99. the heads are ok, but the wires rusted out/ leaving only the ends.

I heard that is you bury speedking pedals,they get faster,and lose their squeek.I just can't remember where I buryed mine.:confused:
